BFF Style: Luau Ladies Edition!

One thing I can't resist? Theme parties. Why theme parties in particular? It's not so much about the decor or the food (but I do really love both of these things too!). It's about what you get to wear when there is a theme involved. Getting dressed is just so much more fun if you have an excuse to go a little over the top.

Luckily, all of my lovely friends agree, and every now and then we take the party outside of the safety of a living room. So this past weekend, in celebration of Lana's gainful employment, we partied down, hula style. And what luau would be complete without tropical drinks, floral hair adornments, and loud colors?

This week you get to meet Julia and Jess. Most of you will remember miss Lana from our previous BFF adventures!

The skewers were koalas and the cups were coconuts! We cried over the cuteness.

Julia is sooo pretty! Like for real.

But really.

I have the prettiest friends in the whole wide world!

Details:

  • Lana is wearing a Tracy Feith for Target dress.
  • Julia is wearing a vintage dress from the 60's purchased from Zoe's.
  • Jess is wearing a vintage maxi unearthed at our favorite thrift haunt.
  • All of these ladies are wearing  handmade hair accessories crafted at home!
  • And all of that hair is natural. As much as I love a Bumpit, a good hairspray and teasing goes a long way.
  • Ambiance and beverages are from Trader Vic's.
  • Colored flashes from my Diana F+ flash kit.

Happy Monday blogosphere!

Funny thing about me. I have a bad habit of holding onto new clothing for an extended "trial period" before actually wearing it. I bought this dress the day I found out it was in stores a few weeks ago and just now pulled it out. I think it was lingering in the overpopulated navy dress section of my closet and it got lost in the fold.

Oh and I suppose there was the issue of the sleeve holes. Like many of the reviews on the Anthro site and as many other bloggers have noticed, the armholes are really really teeny on this. I had a few ideas to discuss with my alterations lady, but I procrastinated too long and just really wanted to wear the dress today. After fussing at my athletic crew/volleyball/yoga/ice cream  eating contest winner arms, I decided to just go with it unbuttoned with a top layer.

I'm in a vintage and vintage-inspired frock mood this week. I plan to bring my favorites out into rotation this week if the weather allows.

I LOVE this dress. When it came out a few seasons ago, I was dying over it. Its price, the cuteness, and how much I had to have it. Miraculously, I stayed strong and didn't get it. Even when it went on mega-sale at all my favorite haunts.

And then... I was browsing Gilt, which I almost never do due to this weakness (and who am I kidding? And all of the other random pieces I obsess over from any given designer!). And there it was. In my size. And basically 60% off. So I did it. And I don't care what you say, it was totally worth it. The dress is beautifully made of quality materials, and I got way more compliments than normal on my outfit that day.

So there, conservative dress code! My name is Jinah and I like fashunz. The End!
