Converse Chuck Taylors

This is what I wore to class yesterday. Silly me (even with a midday outfit change!) forgot about the holiday and I didn't end up wearing a single thing that was green. I suppose it figures since I had been up since 4 AM yesterday morning and had a full day!

I have been pulling out my small sneaker collection lately, as my new job allows me the freedom to wear whatever footwear I want. Which seems like a trivial thing, but my jobs for the past three years have had dress codes that prohibited most comfortable shoes, which is a total pain when you're running around on your feet most of the day.

I don't think this will mean a huge departure from my girly style, but rather open up more options for playing dress up! What is your wear-to-work wardrobe? Sometimes I wish I had a more sedentary gig so that I could wear more frilly skirts and high heels, but I like the hustle and bustle of my day job.

Weekend outfit roundup!

It seems as though I was wearing two different versions of the same outfit this weekend. With the same socks! I now have two packs of the fun colored J. Crew anklets, and I've been trying to incorporate them into my outfits daily. This weekend's outfits are drawing from my Alexa-inspired uniform: boyfriend cardigan/blazer on top, flowy miniskirt on the bottom, and wooden heeled shoes or oxfords.

The kickoff weekend for Spring Break was awesome--Markus and I went up to Chamblee to poke around in a few antique stores that Rhiannon of Liebemarlene Vintage recently mentioned. He's really into mid-century to disco era kitsch, and we found an amazing store overflowing with space ace furniture and robot toys for him to play with.

Sunday, we walked around my neighborhood and grabbed brunch at Highland Bakery. I love every visit to this local eatery, and love even more that I live close by and can usually reschedule without a fuss if the wait is extraordinarily long. Last time I went, I had their super delicious shrimp and grits, which I think is only rivaled by Flying Biscuit's. The creamy cheese sauce along with the jalapeno foccacia bread add a new level to the comfort food dish.

Markus has a habit of creating (everything) constantly. Sometimes when we are having a conversation, he'll switch to visual communication to make points. This napkin doodle was a result of a few Star Trek references he made, to which I had stared back at him blankly.

How was your weekend? I promise I changed my socks yesterday.

I finally used those gift cards I was blathering about. Here are two of the things I got right before my little shopping ban for Lent. The striped top was just a nice staple I was happy to add to my closet. I actually tried on the St. James shirts they had in store and passed because I felt like it gave me linebacker shoulders. And it was so long it looked like I was using daddy's sailing shirt as a nightgown.

This vintage bateau top is a perfect casual layering piece. I'm adding it to my collection of striped shirts as the nicest one I have! Hooray. The skirt was almost an afterthought. But I'm loving the golden pumpkin color and see it playing well with others in my closet. I think it will be great with brown belts and preppy buttondowns as well as cardigans.

I spent all morning looking at the Mulberry website and daydreaming about having a new satchel bag. Can you tell with today's outfit?

Pleated Pants

Tee, American Apparel; Pants, Anthro ("Precisely Pleated Pants");
Shoes, Steve Madden; Scarf, Love Quotes; Bag, Rebecca Minkoff.

Yes, I poo-poohed the first coming of the pleated/carrot pants trend. And then this pair by Idra came out. When I saw them styled in the August Anthro catalog, I had this huge urge to get them. No regrets. They are both edgy and office friendly (if/when ever I work in a corporate office environment) and really really comfy.

It was almost like wearing pajama pants out in public. Haha. Oh and I snagged a Love Quotes during the shopbop promo. This one is Marina and I love it lots.

I have a backlog of outfit posts. I will try to post a big consolidated group of outfits when I get home from class tonight. Until then.

xoxo

Love Quotes scarves

othx Shopbop <3

Secret weapon accessories -these my favorite kind. I love anything that you can casually throw on with any old outfit and it somehow makes it jazzy.

Love Quotes scarves are super jazzy. Yes they are just solid cotton/linen scarves, but they are lush and chunky and complement your eyes and your outfit and your handbag.

Good old Shopbop pulls through yet again (Geez, how do they know exactly what I want?). I was tempted to clean them out when I got this e-mail last night. There are a bunch of good colors left! Free shipping and over 30% off a selection of these feel good scarves.

One of my lady friends has the Dahlia colored one (top left) and it is beautiful in person. I managed to squander my garage sale earnings on two. As my sister says when we are in any center of consumerism, "You gotta love that recession."
