Vintage Days: Sweet Sixteen blouse

August 24 2011 1
I know I've discussed my dilemma of not having anything to wear before on the blog. Okay, it's not that I'm ever without anything to wear, it's more that I am a crazy person and only am excited to buy bright colors (that never match each other) and prints (that never seem to match the aforementioned bright colored things). My shopping resolution for several months has been to incorporate more basics and tame colors that go with everything.

Enter this blouse. I'm just a sucker for a prim collar. And gosh, the pearl buttons and little bow tie at the neck really make it adorable as all heck. This one's gonna be another one that's hard to let go of.

For interested parties, this top is by Rio Blouse from the 80's (80s does 50s/60s steez) and is a size XS/S. I'd be more keen on keeping it for myself if I wasn't trying not to pop buttons open in these photos! Not for the even slightly busty, I suppose. Sigh, such is vintage treasure hunting. Not everything is always the perfect fit. Oh, and priced at $28.

For those of you I won't see on Saturday, don't forget to enter the giveaway! There's prizes for out of towners too!

This post is part of a Vintage miniseries leading up to my participation in VAMP. A little more fun than my everyday outfit posts, but this is more about playing dress-up since I did not wear these in my IRL OOTD. So you vintage mavens, don't worry, I didn't wear this around all day in the sweltering heat before offering it to you! Just for the photoshoot :)

Hold Onto Your Pocketbooks: Dynamic Zigs

I've been enough out of the blog loop and strayed from following my favorite Anthro blogging ladies in fear for my wallet, but I was thrown when I saw this little lady went on sale. I get the feeling that the navy/red colorway is more popular, but I couldn't help but be attracted to the neutral version of this frock.

With pale leather sandals and blushy pink accessories for the rest of summer and warm pumpkin spice layers and brown boots for fall, it could easily transition. I'm thinking of adding this frock to my Tracy Reese hoard. What do you think?

Everybody Everywear: Florals Edition!

I managed to miss out on the past few themes, so I made it my business to get my act together for this month! So without further ado, here is me, participating with y'all on the Internets.

Florals | Everybody, Everywear

May 10, 2011

I think we've discussed a number of times how much of a hoarder I am. Another case in point: this midi floral skirt. When I first spotted this lovely on the rack, it was still threatening snow down South. I grabbed it thinking that I needed it very badly. And it could be the sister skirt to this one. So clearly I need both.

So of course I haven't worn it yet. In fact, it was hidden behind said sister skirt and I almost forgot about it until I started planning for the florals theme.

And as I promised, the super secret surprise photoshoot I've been babbling about went off without a hitch. You lovelies will see the photos later this evening post-editing! Maybe it will also be floral related...

Holiday!

Hello friends! I disappeared for far longer than I intended... In addition to the end of classes backing into the Busy Season for Retail, I think I psyched myself out. For a snap I had convinced myself of all of these terrible self deprecating middle school sentiments. Which really makes it hard to want to be in photos, much less share them all over the web.

Good thing my amazing boyfriend didn't believe any of that nonsense. While I was content to stuff my face and laze on the sofa, he had bigger and better plans. When I unwrapped a remote controller for my camera, I knew that I needed to get this blog back on the road.

Wooden Ships knit beret (similar style here or here, and available locally at Squash Blossom!)
J. Crew ruffled wool coat (similar or here)

Scout Holiday A Fine Fete necklace from Anthropologie  (check out their Etsy for more options, yay!)
plenty by Tracy Reese Peppered and Striped skirt (now on sale--try Anthro stores!)

I had the morning of the annual Anthro tag sale off from work, so I scurried to the mall to check it out. Since all my shopping for friends and family was totally wrapped up, I snapped up a few things for myself, including this skirt. No one can entice me with a sale like Anthropologie can.

Have a merry Christmas y'all! For a little bit of extra fun, don't forget to check out Tara's 12 Days of Christmas Blogger Bonanza, of which the finale is tomorrow. I squeezed in a few hours to contribute and I'm loving every photo that pops up each day!

Thrifted Dooney and Bourke satchel

This is what I wore yesterday for a laid back Easter Sunday. This skirt has been beckoning me for weeks now. Only recently have I found the perfect top to pair with it.

One of my favorite Anthro girls totally sold me on this top when I stepped into the store. It occurred to me that I have a lot of printed skirts and very few tops that work with them. I love to wear color and print, and have a hard time talking myself into buying anything that seems plain or uninteresting  on its own (which to me often means solid and white). But reason prevailed--I am looking for more tops in general and I was desperate to try on whatever they had.

This at first didn't impress me much. The shell is a slub jersey knit with raw edged chiffon layers. Slub knit tops in general to me look large and slouchy, so at first I wrinkled my nose. But then I put it on and dutifully tucked it into the waistband of the skirt I was wearing. And it grew on me really quickly.

I was looking for tops that would work with high waisted skirts for a 50's silhouette. This one fit the bill, surprisingly! The jersey shell allows the top to fit comfortably while still looking polished. I especially like the way the layers float outside the skirt--it feels very airy and ladylike.

Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend! I was glad to enjoy sunny days and time spent with all of my favorite people. The shopping ban is officially lifted, but I think I will still restrict myself to a purchasing diet for the long run. Stay tuned for the pieces I finally let myself buy though!

ETA: As of this morning (4/6), the Status Clouds top is on sale! It's a great piece, especially at the price of $39.95.

Head to Toe with Atlanta Magazine

I bought this for my mom. Seriously.

I've been biting my tongue about this feature for a few weeks now. Atlanta Magazine approached me about being a part of their monthly Head to Toe style feature, and I was more than happy to oblige! I knew it was going to run in this month's issue, but wasn't able to track down a copy until this week. I was getting pretty close to "borrowing" one from my doctor's office. I mean, I have to show my mom. The feature is here too, but she doesn't really do "online."

I had a blast working with the photographer, Alex Martinez. He kept cracking silly jokes and I was laughing hysterically for most of the shoot. It also was hard for me not to post these "behind the scenes" shots my sister took. Alex kept asking me to make funny poses, and I probably ended up goofing off more than taking serious fashion photos.

I love the shot they chose! Despite any scowls I end up posting, I spend a lot of my time laughing at everything.

Turkish Rugs Dress

Dress, plenty by Tracy Reese; boots, Frye; headband, Anthropologie.

Sorry about the indoor shots. Atlanta has had these insane flash floods and I haven't really been able to take proper shots outside. That and I'm pretty sure the front and back porches are covered in dirt and plants from the overflow.

This is what I wore to work to promote rustic cuisine, fall merchandise, and good cheer. I missed layers even though they require cooler climates. Favorite fall dress, favorite fall boots, trusty headband, check. I might end up wearing a variation of this every day.

Minus presentation days for school. On which I have to wear a wool suit. I guess I can make that fashion-y too.
