Outfit details: Anthropologie Red Bird Stratus Cloud top
plenty by Tracy Reese skirt ("vintage" Anthro--1 on eBay)
Target Wakeisha sandals (inspired by these Seychelles
Thrifted Dooney and Bourke satchel

This is what I wore yesterday for a laid back Easter Sunday. This skirt has been beckoning me for weeks now. Only recently have I found the perfect top to pair with it.

One of my favorite Anthro girls totally sold me on this top when I stepped into the store. It occurred to me that I have a lot of printed skirts and very few tops that work with them. I love to wear color and print, and have a hard time talking myself into buying anything that seems plain or uninteresting  on its own (which to me often means solid and white). But reason prevailed--I am looking for more tops in general and I was desperate to try on whatever they had.

This at first didn't impress me much. The shell is a slub jersey knit with raw edged chiffon layers. Slub knit tops in general to me look large and slouchy, so at first I wrinkled my nose. But then I put it on and dutifully tucked it into the waistband of the skirt I was wearing. And it grew on me really quickly.

I was looking for tops that would work with high waisted skirts for a 50's silhouette. This one fit the bill, surprisingly! The jersey shell allows the top to fit comfortably while still looking polished. I especially like the way the layers float outside the skirt--it feels very airy and ladylike.

Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend! I was glad to enjoy sunny days and time spent with all of my favorite people. The shopping ban is officially lifted, but I think I will still restrict myself to a purchasing diet for the long run. Stay tuned for the pieces I finally let myself buy though!

ETA: As of this morning (4/6), the Status Clouds top is on sale! It's a great piece, especially at the price of $39.95.

  8. I have the same issue with buying "plain" tops – I often can't do it! I always love J.Crew's selections for basics, though, so most of my basics come from there. That is, when I can convince myself to buy basics, haha! The top is very pretty though, and the detailing makes it much more interesting. I love the layers! And tucked into a skirt, it looks divine!

  9. Oh my gosh! Your theory on solid tops + printed skirts is totally true and now I want your shirt so badly! *running off to check Anthro's inventory*

  10. Justine--If you can find one left, I think it is totally worth the sale price tag!

Elaine--Haha, if you and I are ever in the same state, we should totally do a clothing swap and dress up out of each others' closets/suitcases.

Kim--They look like they're sold out online but I've seen the black and metallic versions at my local Target stores. But be wary--the black of the PVC stained my pedi. Boo!
